- A sharp corner from a nearby building
- Power poles or wires pointing directly toward your home
- A T-intersection where traffic rushes straight at your front door
- Or even unpleasant or oppressive scenery that creates unease
But beyond physical influences, the Bagua Mirror is also known to ward off spiritual disturbances, protecting the home from unseen or lingering energies that can weigh heavily on its occupants.
How to Use a Feng Shui Mirror Correctly
If you remember one thing from this article, let it be this:
A Bagua Mirror must always face outward, NEVER inside the home!
Whether it’s hung above a door, window, or mounted from inside, the mirror side must point away from the interior, reflecting outwards to repel incoming Sha Qi.
It’s perfectly acceptable to place one inside the home, such as on the inside of a window – so long as it faces outward.
What you must never do is have the mirror facing inward, as this will reflect its protective energy back into the home and disrupt harmony.
That’s when problems arise – agitation, tension, and emotional imbalance can all surface.
It’s one of the most common Feng Shui mistakes made by those who underestimate the mirror’s potency.
The Sacred Design of the Bagua Mirror
An authentic Bagua Mirror isn’t just a round piece of glass.
It’s a carefully crafted spiritual instrument featuring eight trigrams surrounding a central mirror, arranged in the Earlier Heaven Sequence – the configuration that symbolises harmony before creation.
Traditionally, the trigrams are painted red, representing fire and protection. Together, they form a symbolic shield that reflects negativity away and restores energetic balance.

Because of the misinformation online, Bagua Mirrors are often sold as décor or aimed toward neighbours – both of which go against Feng Shui ethics.
Used incorrectly, the mirror can:
- Bounce energy back and forth, creating disharmony
- Disturb the home’s natural Qi flow
- Or even aggravate underlying challenges rather than resolving them

A Personal Reflection
In all my years of practising Feng Shui, I’ve personally never needed to use a Feng Shui Mirror.
However, my teacher once shared a story that has always stayed with me.
She explained that there was a time when she felt called to use one – a rare moment when the energy truly required it.
She hung a Bagua Mirror on the window of a child’s room, facing outward toward a brick wall that stood very close to the building next door.
It was the only time she felt the need to use this remedy – and the energy in that space immediately lightened and became calmer.

Sometimes, you simply know when a space calls for protection.
